We are off!

So, tonight Chris and I are heading to Sewanee to start the festivities. Parents arrive tomorrow, then the rest of you arrive on Friday or Saturday. For those that are coming, we can't wait to see you! For those that won't be able to be there, we will definitely miss you! We will have limited access to e-mail, so if you want to get in touch with us, please call the cell phones. There is (limited) access on the mountain. Safe travels to everyone! We will see you in a few days!!

2 WEEKS!!

That's right, folks. In two weeks, Chris and I will be married and all of you lovely people will be heading back home. It is hard to imagine that after all these many months of planning, the wedding is finally around the corner. I can't say that I am calm, but I am definitely excited about the weekend. I just want to answer a few questions about the dress code for the weekend. Honestly, Chris and I are getting pretty gussied up, but neither one of us is really concerned about what others are wearing. In other words, wear what you want. Friday night is totally casual. Some of us are going to dress appropriately for the event, for example: cowboy boots, western shirts, blue jeans, flannels, etc. If you don't want to look like you are from North Carolina or from Texas, that is fine, just wear casual clothes. No one is dressing up for this event (except maybe my mom). Saturday is definitely going to be a bit more fancy. Again, we do not mind how dressed up (or not) you are, but I would imagine that most women will wear nice dresses and most men will be wearing at least ties, if not coats as well. I hope that helps you all decide what to pack. We look forward to seeing you!

We have already received about a third of the response cards. I am super impressed with how well everyone is following directions by sending both response cards in. Keep them coming!! We fortunately have more people come than not...so join your friends and let us provide food and drink for you. We look forward to hearing from all of you!

Invitation Clarification

By now, a lot of you have received your invitation. If you have not received it yet, it should be on its way. There are a few things that I want to explain concerning the invitations. First, please note that there are TWO response cards to send out. One is for the Rehearsal Dinner and the other is for the actual Wedding and Reception. The last thing that I would like to explain is the Rehearsal Dinner. The rehearsal dinner will START around 7:30, but our intention is for people to come when they arrive on the mountain. If you are not getting in until 10:00, there may not be food left, but there will be plenty of people to see and beer to drink. The point is to come over whenever you get into town. We are looking forward to spending as much time with all of you as possible. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail.

Sting is so kind!

Well, Atlanta folks, I have been redeemed. I wrote Sting a letter, saying that I was marrying my favorite man in the world. I told Sting that the Police were my fiance's favorite band and how much he would enjoy seeing them in concert. I explained to Sting that we were getting married on the night of their performance in Atlanta and asked him if there was any way he would consider adding another show on Sunday. Well, Chris and I found our yesterday that Sting has granted our request. The Police are playing Atlanta on Sunday evening, Nov. 18th. If you want one more night of celebration, I hope we will be there and you are welcome to join us!!

GET YOUR HOTEL ROOM NOW!

So, I panicked recently because I did not give any of your blog checkers notice about the rooms being held in Monteagle. The rooms that were held at the American Eagle Inn have now been released, which means that the Smokehouse is the only place where rooms are still being reserved. We recently found out that a big campus-wide event is being held the same weekend as our wedding, and I am honestly not sure how this is going to affect the availability of rooms. Therefore, my advice to you: If you haven't booked your room yet, do it NOW! The rooms at the Smokehouse are being held until October 15th. I'm sure there are still rooms available for the American Eagle Inn, but I cannot guarantee that anymore. If you have any questions or need any help, please do not hesitate to contact Chris or me. We have just over two months until the big day!!

An Update

As many people ask "How are the plans going?" I am happy to say that things are going very well. We have worked out a lot of fine details, and now are in the stages of making final preparations. Our team of support is all lined up! My niece Georgia, my best friend Julie, and my sister Ginny have all agreed to be my bridesmaids. Chris's best friend Jordan and his brother Mark have all agreed to be groomsmen. My nephews Alex, Jim, and Chris have reluctantly agreed to be ushers, with my brother Lamar and brother-in-law Colin helping. Chris's sister Joanna will read, as will my sister-in-law Chrisanne. Invitations are in their final stages of being done. My dress is still not in Atlanta, but hopefully it will be here soon. It is all coming together. Make sure to keep looking as I imagine this site to get busier as we get closer to the weekend. We are officially two and a half months away!!

Pottery Registry

Chris and I have settled our pottery registry. We are registered at Appalachian Craft Center in Asheville, North Carolina. In order to purchase a piece from our registry, you must call the store at: 828.253.8499. The pictures above show the glaze that we have chosen for our dishes. We are registered for 12 place settings of: 1 large plate, 1 small plate, 1 bowl, and 1 tumbler or mug (we want 6 of each). We are also registered for a platter and a set of nesting bowls. I have been going to this shop since I was a little girl, so it is nice to support them with my wedding.

Apologies...

So, especially to the Atlanta group coming to the wedding, I want to make my sincerest apologies. It was announced today that the Police are finally going to come to Atlanta. And it is the day of our wedding. The Police is Chris's favorite band of all time...and I feel terrible that he is going to miss the show. I mean, you only get married once, right? But I would doubt it if the Police ever toured again. So, if anyone decides to go to the concert rather than our wedding, in a very bitter way, I will understand!

Travel Arrangements

For those of you that will travel by air to the wedding, I wanted to let you all know the convenient airports. Unfortunately, you will not find direct flights to Sewanee (unless you are buddies with a pilot!). You can fly to Nashville, which will be about an hour and a half drive to Sewanee. You can also fly to Chattanooga, which is an hours drive to Sewanee. If you need any assistance with travel arrangements, please let me know. Chris and I will be happy to help!

Cabin Rentals

I hope that all of you have received your Save the Date card and are now checking the blog regularly for updates. I have heard some of you talk about wanting to rent a cabin for your stay in Sewanee. This definitely can be an affordable option for a group of people, and you would have a lovely place to stay and even a kitchen to prepare breakfast. Accommodations Provided

OK, friends, you will receive official word of the procedings in the next week or so. Anyway, once you check your calendars you should make your reservations. I have blocked off rooms at the two hotels listed on the left side of this screen. Let me tell you some information about the two hotels so you can make your decision wisely!
American Eagle:
This is the newest hotel in Monteagle (the town closest to Sewanee). I have never been inside this hotel, but since it is new, it should be basic, but nice and clean. You have the option of rooms with two queen beds ($79.95) or one king bed (84.95). When you call, please ask about the Nard and Boehme Wedding rooms.
The Smokehouse:
This motel has been in Monteagle for ages. I have never been inside of one of the rooms, but this hotel has been a favorite for many Sewanee families. This hotel also has the choice of double queen beds or one king bed. Rates will be between $71.00 to $77.00 per night. When you call this hotel, please ask about the Nard-Boehme Wedding rooms.

Registry Information Added

Reception Site and Priest

So, Chris and I have made some major progress so far this week. First of all, we got a Priest. The Rev. Jane Smith, who lives in Asheville, will officiate the wedding. She was one of my priests growing up, mainly during my high school years. We know how much guidance you need then! I am very glad that she will be on board! We also have a venue for the reception. Just like many couples that have gone before us, we will have our reception at the Sewanee Inn. I will post pictures soon! Chris and I look forward to having a large indoor and large outdoor space to provide flow and fun for the reception. Get your party shoes on!

The Marriage Site

Just in case you were wondering (or will be a new visitor to Sewanee), this is where Chris and I having the actual wedding ceremony. It is called Chapel of the Apostles, which is the chapel for the School of Theology. The chapel is truly beautiful and airy and intimate.

Welcome

In this modern time that we live in, it seems that all engaged couples must complete the rite of passage by creating some form of website or blog. Here is ours. I want to use the forum to keep all of our friends and family informed of important wedding information. Check back often to see updates on issues such as accommodations, wedding registries, and schedules for the big weekend.
